The largest chunk of money allocated falls under the city’s quality of life theme: more than $25 million, which includes $5 million from the pot for vulnerable residents and small businesses. Mayor Farrah Khan called the spending plan “a great step forward to ensure that we’re investing in our recovery from the pandemic, which has definitely impacted every facet of the quality of life of Irvine residents.” The plan recently approved by the City Council focuses spending on Irvine’s five “strategic priorities,” laying out how the city will divvy its allocation from the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act on “quality of life, natural environment, traffic and mobility, fiscal strength and organizational excellence.”
